The Author
Julie Fontenot Landry is a Louisiana native author, coauthor, and translator of works for children and adults. The focus of much of her writing has been Louisiana history and folklore, the passion passed on to her by her mother, the late Louisiana legend Mary Alice Fontenot. The mother-daughter duo collaborated on numerous projects, including writing the music, lyrics, and piano arrangements for many of the books in the Clovis Crawfish series. Landry took over the series, at her mother’s request, completing the stories and concepts they had started for the collection. Biography Landry earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Her dissertation, Kudzu, Oak, and Pine, was a collection of short stories on Louisiana topics. In addition to English, Landry speaks and writes the French of her Acadian ancestors and translates from one to the other, notably on the Clovis Crawfish series. She was awarded the CODOFIL prize for French prose in 1995. Since her retirement from forty-five years as a teacher and school administrator, Landry has continued to write and has resumed painting, which she had set aside for many years. |
